Bridgestone Blizzak Spike-01 Tests

2016 AMS (205/55 R16)

In 2015 experts of the Swedish publication Auto Motor & Sport have tested the Bridgestone Blizzak Spike 01 at size 205/55 R16 and compared it with seven similar budget, mid-range and premium studded tyres. In addition, experts included into the test eight studless tyres to compare results.

5th place in Wet braking.  The wet braking distance 1.97 meters longer than the best studded and 0.64 meters longer, than the best studless tyre.

8th place in Wet handling. Bridgestone was 1.98 seconds slower, than the best studded tyre.

15th place in Dry braking. Bridgestone had 4.3 meters longer braking distance than the best studless tyre and 3.07m than the best studded.

8th place in Ice braking. The ice braking distance was 1.37 meters longer than the best studded tyre and 0.28m than the best studless.

5th place in Ice traction. Bridgestone’s ice acceleration time 1.04 seconds longer than the best studded tyre.

12-14th place in Ice lateral stability. Ice handling time 0.08 seconds longer than the best studless tyre and 0.05 seconds than the best studded tyre.

8th place in Snow braking. Bridgestone was very close to the leader (only 0.47 meters braking distance longer), but anyway showed one of the lowest result among studded tyres.

8th place in Snow traction. Like in the previous test,  this time Bridgestone showed one of the lowest result among studded tyres, but was very close to them: the ice acceleration time difference with the leader was only 0/29 seconds.

7th place in Snow lateral stability. The snow handling time difference with the leader was 1.17 seconds longer.

Overall Bridgestone Blizzak Spike 01 Review

According to the test results the Bridgestone took 7th place among sttudded tyres.

Main conclusions:

  • Good wet braking and handling.
  • Poor dry braking: the tyre showed on of the longest braking distances among all the tyres.
  • One of the lowest results on the ice among similar studded tyres.
  • The lowest results on the snow among similar studded tyres.
  • High fuel consumption.
